Evaluation eines kognitiv-behavioralen Gruppenkonzepts für pflegende Angehörige von Demenzerkrankten. = Evaluation of a cognitive-behavioral group intervention for family caregivers of persons with dementia
Year of Publication 2012
Abstract
International studies have revealed that dementia caregivers’ health deteriorates as a result of intensive at-home care. A cognitive-behavioral group intervention concept was therefore tailored to the needs of dementia caregivers and aimed at an increase in psychological well-being and the prevention of adverse effects on psychological health. The group concept was evaluated with an intervention-control group design (N = 86 IG; N = 92 CG) in a prospective longitudinal study. Outcome variables, assessed at 3 point of measurement, were depressive symptoms, symptoms of anxiety, health-related quality of life, and physical health. Compared to caregivers in the control group, caregivers in the intervention group showed significantly lower symptoms of depression and anxiety at follow-up, which was consistent with the hypotheses. Furthermore, nursing home placement was delayed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2013 APA, all rights reserved). (journal abstract)
